PORT HARCOURT – The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has announced the release of withheld local government allocations, assuring that necessary measures will be taken to ensure the prompt payment of workers’ salaries.
Speaking at a meeting with Heads of Local Government Administrators in Port Harcourt, Ibas described the move as a crucial step toward restoring stability in the state. He acknowledged the economic hardship in the Niger Delta, emphasizing the paradox of widespread suffering despite the region’s natural resource wealth.
“This is unacceptable,” Ibas stated, stressing the need for accountability and reform. He expressed concern over the prolonged salary delays affecting local government workers, assuring them that the newly released funds would be used to settle outstanding payments without further delay.
“I feel the pain of the workers,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to addressing the issue swiftly.
