The Rivers State Police Command has called on residents to be vigilant and promptly report any suspected cases of abuse to law enforcement authorities.
The State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, made the appeal in a statement in Port Harcourt on Thursday. His comments followed the arrest of a pastor alleged to have flogged several children as part of what he claimed was a “spiritual cleansing” exercise.
Adepoju, noted that the safety and welfare of all residents remain a top priority for the command.
He further reiterated the police commitment to protecting the rights of every citizen, with a special focus on vulnerable groups, including children, who are often the most at risk of exploitation and harm.
Adepoju encouraged members of the public to collaborate with the police by providing timely information that could help prevent abuse and ensure the swift apprehension of offenders.
