The Rivers State Police Command has announced the commencement of activities for the 2026 National Police Day celebration, unveiling a series of community-focused programmes aimed at strengthening trust and collaboration between law enforcement and residents.
In a press statement, the Command noted that this year’s theme, “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” underscores its renewed commitment to fostering stronger police-community relations while enhancing public safety across Rivers State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, explained that the week-long activities are designed not only to honour the sacrifices of officers but also to give back to society through impactful outreach initiatives.
Activities will begin on Monday, March 30, with a statewide sanitation and environmental cleaning exercise, alongside a medical outreach programme aimed at improving public health. The initiatives are expected to attract participation from both officers and community members, promoting a shared sense of responsibility.
On Tuesday, March 31, the Command will host a walkathon for peace and public safety.
The symbolic march will commence at the Police Headquarters on Moscow Road and end at Isaac Boro Park, serving as a public demonstration of unity and commitment to a safer society.
Midweek activities on April 1 will focus on community engagement and sensitization, with discussions centered on the dangers of electoral violence and the importance of safe driving practices. The programme will involve key stakeholders, youth groups, and community leaders.
A solemn highlight is scheduled for Thursday, April 2, when cheques will be presented to families of deceased officers in recognition of their sacrifices and to provide support to their loved ones.
The celebration will conclude with a grand finale on April 7 in Abuja, featuring a ceremonial parade and tactical display showcasing the professionalism and preparedness of the Nigeria Police Force
