The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has announced a restriction of movement on Saturday, August 30, from 12 noon to 6 p.m. as part of security measures for the local government elections.
Adepoju made the announcement during a press briefing on Tuesday, explaining that only individuals on election duty or essential services would be permitted to move within the period, with official passes issued to them. He said security and monitoring officials will be identified with tags.
The Commissioner assured residents that adequate security personnel have been deployed to safeguard lives and property during and after the polls. He added that the command has conducted sensitisation programmes to encourage peaceful participation and ensure a hitch-free election.
Adepoju also warned that only the police, military, and other recognised security agencies are authorised to provide security during the exercise, stressing that vigilante groups will not be allowed to operate.
