The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a child trafficking syndicate and rescued a pregnant woman during a major operation targeting human trafficking networks.
According to a statement released on Monday, the suspects—28-year-old Sunshine Hart and 38-year-old Kingsley Ekocha—were apprehended on June 24, 2025, in Aba, Abia State, following intensive investigations and intelligence gathering.
During the operation, police operatives rescued a 24-year-old pregnant woman, Regina Sunday, who was reportedly being held by the traffickers. She was placed in protective custody and, on June 30, went into labor. She delivered a baby boy at the Police Clinic in Port Harcourt, where both mother and child are currently receiving medical care and are said to be in stable condition.
The police said investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the syndicate.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to rooting out human trafficking and urged the public to assist with credible information that could aid ongoing efforts.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, emphasized that the operation reflects the police’s resolve to protect vulnerable individuals and bring perpetrators of human trafficking to justice.
