The Rivers State Police Command has refuted allegations of foul play in the ongoing legal proceedings against Christian Maduba, who is accused of assaulting three women at the BlackBox nightclub in Port Harcourt.
The denial comes amid widespread criticism on social media, where users accused the police of attempting to frustrate the case by altering the charges against the suspect.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed that the case had already been charged to court and was following due legal process. She dismissed the accusations as baseless and insisted that the police were acting professionally.
“The police cannot interfere in a case that is already before the court. We are professionals. We are not trying to kill the case. The charges were not changed—six counts of assault, battery, and conspiracy to commit felony were brought against the suspect,” Iringe-Koko stated.
According to police sources, Maduba was arrested and detained on June 14 at the Olu Obasanjo Divisional Police Station after the victims reported the incident. He was subsequently arraigned before a Port Harcourt Magistrate Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail. The case has been adjourned to July 23 for hearing.
