The Rivers State Police Command has reportedly contracted local vigilante groups to watch over some of its stations and checkpoints, so as to forestall attacks from unknown gunmen.
One of the stations reportedly under the watch of these vigilante groups, is the Elele Police Area Command Headquarters, in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
Sources say the group also provide intelligence reports to the Police and provide security to the people of the Community.
It is believed that the Police decided to contract the vigilante group to secure the station, after attacks by unknown gunmen believed to be men of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), loyal to Nnamdi Kanu.
Incessant attacks by unknown Gunmen on security Operatives in the state, have forced the state government to impose a state-wide curfew.
