PORT HARCOURT – The Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), Rivers State chapter, has accused the state’s Sole Administrator of halting the ₦2 billion monthly gratuity payments introduced by the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking to reporters, the State Secretary of the Union, Dr. Joseph Agbo, said while monthly pensions remain unaffected, the payments intended to clear long-standing gratuity arrears have stopped since the Sole Administrator took office.
Dr. Agbo also criticized successive administrations in the state for failing to implement pension adjustments in line with national minimum wage increases. He recalled that former Governor Nyesom Wike’s administration had committed ₦1 billion monthly to settle outstanding gratuities.
