The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has denied reports circulating on social media that it has begun selling nomination forms for chairmanship and councillorship positions ahead of upcoming local government elections.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Dr. Kenneth Yowika, described the claims as false and baseless. He urged party members and the public to disregard the misinformation.
Yowika emphasized that the PDP would only begin the process after the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) releases official guidelines.
“The PDP is a law-abiding party and will not commence any form of electoral activity until due process is followed,” he said. “We have laid-down procedures for communicating with our supporters, and any official announcement will be made through appropriate channels.”
The statement comes amid heightened political interest in the state following the inauguration of a new RSIEC board.
