Prominent chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State have openly declared their support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, signaling a major political realignment in the state.
Governor Fubara announced the development on Thursday during the New Year banquet hosted by the Rivers State Government at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Port Harcourt.
He identified the PDP heavyweights as former National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara; former Rivers State Governor, Celestine Omehia; and former Minister of Transport, Abiye Sekibo.
The governor noted that the political figures, who were previously associated with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, have resolved to back President Tinubu, describing their decision as a clear rebuttal of claims and political blackmail suggesting that he was aligning with forces opposed to the President.
Governor Fubara reaffirmed his steadfastness amid political pressures, saying his confidence is rooted in his faith in God and his understanding of the political environment. He stressed that his administration has put the necessary mechanisms in place to successfully navigate current challenges and deliver on its mandate.
Declaring that 2026 would mark a period of “complete liberation” for Rivers State, the governor assured that all objectives of his administration would be achieved. He added that although his government has faced several battles, those experiences have only strengthened its resolve.
The governor maintained that he has lost nothing despite the challenges, expressing confidence that everything would be fully restored in due time. He further assured that his administration would never compel anyone to act wrongly, stressing that he remains fearless and committed to doing what is right for the state.
