The Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Robinson Ewor, has declared the recently held South-South zonal congress in Calabar, Cross River State, as illegitimate, citing constitutional violations.
Speaking during a live interview on Nigeria Info FM’s Morning Crossfire, Ewor argued that the PDP constitution grants exclusive authority to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to organize congresses. According to him, any congress convened outside the NWC’s directive lacks legitimacy and cannot be recognized as valid.
Ewor further criticized the choice of Calabar as the venue, insisting that such a congress should have taken place at the official South-South zonal headquarters of the party. He questioned the rationale behind the venue change, suggesting that it deviated from established party guidelines.
His comments come amid growing tension within the PDP, as factions within the South-South zone continue to disagree over leadership and organizational decisions. It remains to be seen how the national leadership of the party will respond to Ewor’s concerns and whether the congress results will stand.
