The Supreme Court says the Panel of Inquiry set up by the Rivers State Government to probe former Governor of the State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is not competent to indict him.

The Apex court made this known in its ruling that dismissed Amaechi’s suit seeking to stop the Panel from investigating his administration.

The former Transport Minister had through his counsel, Lateef Fagbemi, opposed the probe on the ground that it was aimed at witch-hunting and embarrassing him.

However, the court dismissed Amaechi’s suit on grounds that it lacked merit, and also ordered the Presidential hopeful to pay the sum of N1 million to the respondents.

Amaechi is being accused of illegally selling assets belonging to the state government.
