The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted widespread thundery and rainy weather conditions across various parts of the country from Monday, July 1 to Wednesday, July 3.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet said early morning thunderstorms—some accompanied by rain—are expected in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna States in the northern region.
The forecast also indicates cloudy skies with chances of light morning rainfall in parts of Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States in the southern region.
Afternoon and evening thunderstorms with light rainfall are expected to affect several southern states including Ogun, Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. The rest of the country will experience sunny intervals with patches of cloud.
NiMet advised motorists to avoid driving during heavy rain and urged residents to disconnect electrical appliances during storms. It also warned the public to steer clear of tall trees to prevent injuries from falling branches.
Airline operators were encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather information from NiMet for safe and efficient flight operations.
