Okochiri, Rivers State — The Rivers State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has reiterated its dedication to promoting peace and unity across the state during a courtesy visit to the palace of HRM King Ateke Tom, the paramount ruler of Okochiri Kingdom.
Led by its Chairman, Nwisibari Bani, the Council praised the monarch for his continued support of youth development and peace-building initiatives. Bani described the visit as part of an ongoing campaign to foster dialogue and social cohesion in Rivers State.
“We are here to improve on the peace infrastructure for the development and progress of Rivers State,” Bani stated, stressing that the initiative is non-partisan and aimed at unifying the state.
The NYCN Chairman also referenced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent call for an emergency rule in the state, describing the intervention as pivotal in maintaining stability. He expressed gratitude to the President and the National Assembly for what he described as timely and effective action that has helped restore calm.
Bani further urged Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (retired), the state’s sole administrator, to remain committed to the ongoing peace and development efforts.
Responding, King Ateke Tom commended the youth council’s initiative and reaffirmed his support for peace in Rivers State. He encouraged the youth to reject violence and serve as ambassadors of unity and progress.
