The Rivers State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on the Ikwerre Local Government Council to tender an unreserved apology over comments credited to one of its appointees, Chris Omodu.
According to the union, Omodu had alleged that the NUJ in the state allow criminals to use the organisation to sabotage the efforts of the state government in the fight against insecurity.
Secretary of the Union, Ike Nwigodo who made this known in a chat with journalists in Port Harcourt, said the union does not own a media outfit and cannot take responsibility or control of what happens in any media house.
Nwigodo, furthermore noted that there are no criminals in the Union as they will never sabotage government’s efforts.
