The Rivers State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, has condemned the abduction of one of its members, Chidiebere Onyia, a reporter with Nigeria Television Authority.
The reporter, according to reports was abducted by four unknown gunmen on Tuesday night, at Obio/Akpor LGA.
Chairman of the NUJ in the state, Stanley Job Stanley in a statement yesterday, called for the unconditional release of the journalist.
He called on the state Police command, to ensure the release of the female reporter, and also ensure the protection of Journalists, so they can carryout their duties without fear.
The Rivers Civil Society Organizations RIVCSO, have also condemned the incident and called for the unconditional release of Chidiebere Onyia.
Meanwhile, the state Police Command says it is on top of the matter, to ensure the release of the reporter.
Spokesperson of the command, Nnamdi Omoni dsclosed this in a statement yesterday.
