Rivers State has been listed as the 7th State with the highest external debt service costs in the first six months of 2024.
This is according to an analysis of the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS,)
In 2024, the state’s external debt service costs rose to N4.6 billion, up from N1.76 billion in 2023, an increase of N2.85 billion or 161.9%.
It also said, states have collectively spent about N139.92 billion on servicing external debt in the first half of 2024.
Lagos, Kaduna and Cross River State are first, second and third on the list.
