The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairmanship Candidate for Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu, has pledged action-driven leadership to address the council’s pressing challenges, including poverty, mass hunger, unemployment, insecurity, and ignorance.
Speaking during a media chat on Nigeria Info 92.3 FM on Tuesday, Worlu said his emergence as the PDP flagbearer was based on years of public service rather than political lobbying. The former two-time caretaker chairman, commissioner, and university lecturer stressed that governance should not be left solely to career politicians.
“I have decided to leave the classroom to practice politics in reality, to make real changes in the lives of our people and restore hope,” Worlu said, reiterating that government’s primary duty is the welfare and security of citizens.
He condemned poor waste disposal, indiscriminate street trading, blocked drainage systems, and moral decline in the area, vowing to enforce environmental laws and adopt a zero-tolerance approach to indiscriminate dumping of refuse. He also promised a digital, data-driven approach to tax collection, governance, and service delivery.
On health and education, Worlu pledged to replicate successful health centre models, improve maternal health, and expand access to education through targeted policies. He assured residents of a responsive, consultative, and solution-oriented administration if elected.
Unveiling his campaign slogan, “OBALGA UNITED,” he said, “Our fight is not against APC or any political group. Our enemies are hunger, mass unemployment, insecurity, and poverty. A united people can never be defeated.”
Worlu urged residents to turn out massively for the August 30 polls and vote PDP to secure a united and progressive Obio/Akpor.
