Key political figures in Rivers State loyal to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike including members of the State House of Assembly (RSHA), newly elected local government chairmen, and appointees of former Sole Administrator, Ibok Ibas, were conspicuously absent on Sunday as the Rivers State Government held an interdenominational church service to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.
The service, which took place at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Diobu, Port Harcourt, was attended largely by loyalists of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The governor, his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and his wife, Valerie Fubara, were present.
The absence of several top government officials and political stakeholders has fueled speculations over the fragile peace between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. Political observers say the development raises fresh questions about whether the truce between the two leaders can withstand the test of time.
