The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, has reacted to the protest by some persons who claimed to be members of the union, over what they described as unjust treatment in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
National President of IPMAN, Debo Ahmed, in a statement at the weekend dissociated the organization from the protest, and urged security operatives to arrest all those involved.
He said those behind the protest are not real marketers of IPMAN.
Debo, commended the Rivers State police commissioner, Eboka Friday for his efforts in ensuring that the strike by NUPENG and petrol tanker drivers was called off.
Part of his statement reads,
The promoters of this protest are not real marketers of petroleum products across the state and its environs.
The Security agencies are called upon to arrest and profile them to avoid unnecessary breakdown of law and order.
The Supreme Court judgment affirmed the 1997 Constitution of IPMAN, which remains the operative instrument of the Association.
We, therefore, pass a vote of confidence on the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State and the PTD – NUPENG of Port Harcourt Zonal Council.
