The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reportedly announced that it will not conduct a by-election in Ahoada East Constituency Two of the Rivers State House of Assembly, insisting that the seat is still legally occupied by Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie.
INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State, Gabriel Yomere, disclosed this during an interview with Super 93.3. He explained that although Ehie, a former Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, announced his resignation at the height of the recent political crisis in the state, both the Commission and the House of Assembly did not accept the resignation.
Yomere clarified that the only constituency where a bye-election may likely hold before the end of the year is Khana Constituency Two, which became vacant following the death of its member, Dinebari Loolo.
He assured that INEC remains committed to fairness in its electoral duties. “There will be no preferential treatment to any political parties,” he declared.
Nice one
