A group known as Rivers People Mandate says it has uncovered plans by members of the State House of Assembly led by Hon. Martin Amaewhule to hold plenary at the Assembly complex despite a court order restraining them from doing so.
The group in a statement said the move could lead to chaos and unrest in the state and called on the State Commissioner of Police Mr Olatunji Disu, and other security agencies to act in accordance with the law.
The statement reads,
THE RIVERS PEOPLE MANDATE HAS UNCOVERED PLANS BY THE FACTIONAL RIVERS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY MEMBERS LED BY FORMER SPEAKER, RT HON MARTINS AMAEWHULE TO VIOLATE COURT ORDER.
It has come to the knowledge of the general public that despite valid Court order restraining all parties pending various matters in Court, the faction of former Speaker of the RSHA, Rt. Hon Martins Chike Amaewhule and his cohorts are planning to seat.
This is in flagrant disobedience and non respect for existing Court Orders restraining all parties not to take any further step or do anything in any manner since the matter of RSHA is now subjudice.
They are therefore reminded of the consequences of their actions which is liable for Contempt and advised to abide by the Court Orders pending the determination of the matters in Court and allow peace to reign in the state.
It is important to note that the Court order was put in place for a reason, and both factions must respect it. Seating without the Court’s approval would not only be a violation of the rule of law but could also lead to chaos and unrest in the state.
We, the Rivers People Mandate is calling on the Rivers State Commissioner of Police Mr Olatunji Disu, and other security agencies to take positive action on this in order to maintain peace and order in the state.
