The Rivers State Government has opened the Dr Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease Diagnostic and Treatment Centre to the public in Port Harcourt.
The state-of-the-art facility, located at No. 180 Ikwerre Road, Rumuokwuta, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, was built by a previous administration and commissioned in November 2022.
However, it remained closed for over three years before being reopened by the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The centre is equipped to provide advanced healthcare services, including chemotherapy, nuclear medicine, and cardiovascular treatment. It has 72 beds, a 10-bed intensive care unit (ICU), a pathology laboratory, a radiology department, two operating theatres, and a catheterisation (Cath) laboratory.
The Rivers State Government said the facility is expected to develop into a major hub for medical tourism, attracting patients from across Rivers State and neighbouring regions.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Chidinma Oreh, said Governor Fubara’s administration is committed to using the centre to provide comprehensive care for patients with cancer, cardiovascular, and renal diseases.
According to Oreh, the opening of the centre represents a significant milestone for the state’s health sector and will serve as a beacon of hope for patients requiring specialised medical care.
The reopening of the facility is seen as a major boost to healthcare delivery in Rivers State, expanding access to specialised diagnosis and treatment for residents.
