The Rivers State Ministry of Youth Development has clarified that there is currently no legally constituted or inaugurated Rivers State Youth Parliament (RSYP) recognized by the Rivers State Government.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Development, Ruhuoma Chinedu Kejeh in a statement stressed that the Youth Parliament is a government-created platform whose establishment and inauguration fall strictly within the statutory mandate of the Ministry of Youth Development.
It explained that while the 1st Assembly of the Rivers State Youth Parliament was inaugurated in 2013, the 2nd Assembly has never been inaugurated.
The Ministry further noted that no interim arrangement, parallel structure, or alternative body operating under the name of the Rivers State Youth Parliament has been approved by the state government.
According to the statement, any individual or group operating, organizing activities, or issuing statements under the name “RSYP” without government authorization is impersonating a government institution. Such actions and publications, the Ministry said, are misleading, null, and of no effect.
The Ministry therefore advised members of the public and the media to disregard any claims, statements, or publications attributed to the Rivers State Youth Parliament, as they did not emanate from a lawfully constituted or recognized body.
