The Rivers State Government, says an app to enable marketers buy petroleum products from approved sources is been developed.
Peter Meede, state Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources disclosed this during an interview on Wednesday.
He said the digital technology when developed would discourage patronage of illegal refiners in the state.
He explained that the government can only do little using security agencies to fight artisanal refining in the state.
“Presently we are developing an app in the ministry which will be able to show where you buy product from… If you control those people buying these products to ensure that they buy from legal sources, you have taken about 30 percent of the market away from artisanal Refiners,” he said.
Meede, had in a statement few days ago disclosed that waivers for the establishment of 15 modular refineries in the state have been secured.
