The Rivers State Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and upholding its core ideals of national unity and integration through youth service.
Speaking at the 2025 NYSC/Corps Employers Workshop held in Port Harcourt, Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, praised the NYSC for its role in promoting national development. He pledged the state’s continued support for the scheme, noting that the government would work to align its implementation with international best practices.
“The Rivers State Government will not rest on its oars in ensuring that the NYSC continues to serve as a catalyst for national development and unity,” Prof. Worika stated.
The workshop, themed “Strengthening NYSC/Corps Employers Partnership for Improved Service Delivery,” brought together stakeholders to explore strategies for enhancing the efficiency and impact of the scheme.
Representing the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, Deputy Director of Operations for the South-South Area Office II, Mr. Chijioke Duru, described the forum as crucial for shaping policy and fostering dialogue between the NYSC and corps employers.
In his welcome address, the NYSC Coordinator in Rivers State, Mr. Moses Oleghe, emphasized that the welfare and effective deployment of corps members were key priorities of the workshop, aimed at maximizing their contributions to the state’s socio-economic development.
