The Rivers State Government, in collaboration with civil society organizations, has inaugurated a three-day intensive intervention programme aimed at desilting and cleaning drainages across key flood-prone areas of the state.
The initiative, which seeks to mitigate the impact of seasonal flooding and improve environmental health, was announced by the Deputy Governor and Chairman of the 2025 Rivers State Flood Management Committee, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu.
According to a statement issued from the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Friday, October 17, 2025, the project underscores the government’s commitment to proactive flood management and partnership with stakeholders to ensure community safety and environmental sustainability.
