The Rivers State Government has unveiled new measures to expand support for Persons with Disabilities, including free healthcare coverage and strengthened implementation of disability laws.
At the empowerment event in Port Harcourt, Dr. Vetty Agala announced that 253 PWDs in the state will benefit from free medical services under the “Health For All Rivers Initiative,” giving them access to primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare.
Mrs. Lorenta Davis-Dimkpa added that Rivers State is working toward establishing a regional office for the Disability Commission and reinforcing the implementation of the Disability Act of 2018 to improve protection and inclusion.
Former Supreme Court Justice Mary Odili (rtd.) commended the federal and state governments for championing disability rights and enhancing opportunities for vulnerable citizens.
During the event, the Rivers State Ministry of Health also honored Lady Valerie Fubara with the Universal Health Coverage Ambassador award for her contributions to expanding healthcare access in the state.
