The Rivers State Government has unveiled the official programme of activities for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, underscoring its commitment to honouring fallen heroes and supporting veterans and their families.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Benibo Anabraba, disclosed the schedule during a planning meeting on Wednesday, where he charged members of the organising committee to ensure the smooth and successful execution of the week-long activities.
Dr. Anabraba reaffirmed that the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains steadfast in its dedication to the welfare of serving military personnel, retired officers, widows and families of fallen heroes.
According to the programme, activities will commence on Friday, January 9, with Juma’at prayers at the Rivers State Central Mosque. This will be followed on Saturday, January 10, by a humanitarian outreach for widows and veterans, to be hosted by the wife of the governor, Lady Valerie Fubara.
On Sunday, January 11, a thanksgiving service will hold at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, while the events will culminate on Thursday, January 15, with the grand finale wreath-laying ceremony at the Isaac Boro Park Cenotaph.
The SSG noted that the final ceremony will be led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, alongside top state security chiefs.
