Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has not received any impeachment proceedings from the Rivers State House of Assembly, the state government has said.
The Governor’s Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Hon. Darlington Orji, disclosed this on Friday during an appearance on Arise News.
Orji said there was no justification for any impeachment move against the governor, stressing that Fubara had not committed any offence that would warrant such action by the legislature.
He described the impeachment threats as politically motivated, alleging that they were being driven by individuals loyal to a “certain person” who believes he is in control of the state and is bent on holding it to ransom.
According to him, the people of Rivers State are satisfied with Governor Fubara’s leadership and the performance of his administration.
Orji maintained that the impeachment plot lacks merit, adding that the apparent U-turn by some lawmakers suggests they are beginning to realise their mistakes and better understand their responsibilities to the people.
He urged political actors in the state to put the interest of Rivers people above personal ambitions and allow the governor to continue delivering good governance.
