The Rivers State Flood Management Committee says there is a need to dredge the Orashi River to help prevent flood in the area.
Chairman of the committee and Deputy Governor of the state, Prof. Ngozi Odu made this known in a statement in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
According to her, this decision was reached after they visited the Orashi region, adding that the River is now shallow and can hardly contain enough water.
She stated that the recommendation would be communicated to the state and federal government for immediate action.
She also said the state government has been doing its best to mitigate the impact of the flood, noting that flood victims would not be abandoned.
