Lady Valerie Siminalayi Fubara, the First Lady of Rivers State, has called on women in the state to embrace a lifestyle that combines physical fitness with unwavering spiritual faith.
The call was made on Thursday during a special praise and fitness event held at the Ecumenical Christian Centre, organised by Rivers State Women Unite For Sim (RWUS). The programme, themed “A Sound Heart is Life to the Body” (Proverbs 14:30), attracted a large gathering of women.
Addressing participants, Lady Fubara highlighted the strong connection between physical health and longevity, noting that the initiative aims to keep women active and healthy well into their 70s and 80s.
“A healthy heart is a healthy life,” she said, stressing that the exercise sessions are intended as collective wellness activities rather than competitions. She also assured elderly participants that future routines would include modified exercises to suit different physical abilities.
Sharing her personal fitness routine, Lady Fubara revealed that she walks 10,000 steps each morning to manage her weight and encouraged women to incorporate simple walking into their daily schedules.
Beyond physical fitness, the First Lady emphasised the importance of spiritual resilience, urging women to place their trust in God above all else. Quoting scripture, she said: “They that put their trust in the Lord, the Lord shall renew their strength,” and encouraged the women to “mount and soar as eagles,” describing the sunny weather as “natural vitamin D” and a sign of divine favor.
The event successfully blended aerobic exercises with praise and worship, concluding with a prayer from Lady Fubara for the continued health and prosperity of women in Rivers State. She also invited attendees to a forthcoming spiritual encounter scheduled for November 27.
