The Rivers State chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, has condemned the robbery incident at the hostels of the Rivers State University.
Adata Bio-Briggs, Chairperson of FIDA in the state in a statement Today, called on the school authorities and government to ensure that the perpetrators of the heinous crime are brought to justice.
Her statement reads
FIDA Nigeria, Rivers State Branch, vehemently denounces the reprehensible act of invading Hostel D, the female hostel at Rivers State University Port Harcourt on the night of Wednesday, August 23rd, 2023.
The perpetrators, armed to the teeth with guns and matchets, violently attacked the hostel, leaving the helpless female students in a state of distress. During the ghastly attack, several female students were subjected to rape, sexual molestation, robbery, and physical assault with matchets, causing bodily harm and immense psychological trauma.
FIDA strongly condemns this callous and inhumane behavior of the perpetrators and calls on the school authorities and government to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to justice and the full weight of the law is imposed on them.
We express our deepest condolences to the victims and their families and assure them of our unyielding support to ensure that they receive justice and that proper legal redress is provided.
FIDA remains resolute in our unwavering advocacy for women and children’s rights and protection.
