The election and return of former Rivers State Deputy Governor, Ipalibo Banigo Harry, as the senator representing Rivers West Senatorial District has been upheld by the Rivers State Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja.
Candidate of the APC, Asita O. Asita had prayed the court to declare the election which produced Banigo as null and void for failing to acquire the majority of valid votes and declare him winner of the election.
However, the tribunal held that Asita failed to prove that Banigo did not win by majority of lawful votes and was unable to produce a figure-based analysis of votes cast that show his votes higher than that of the respondent.
