Rivers State Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, has emphasised the need for deeper empowerment and capacity-building for women in the medical profession.
Speaking at the Rivers State Conference of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN) held on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Professor Odu commended the association for its dedication to professional excellence and healthcare delivery.
She highlighted the conference theme, “Empowering Women in Medicine and Building Capacity for Impact,” stressing that empowerment goes beyond providing opportunities to ensuring women possess the knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills required to excel.
The Deputy Governor described women in medicine as operating at the vital intersection of science and service, noting that their contribution to healthcare advancement directly strengthens women’s empowerment in society.
Reaffirming the commitment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration to gender-inclusive development, Professor Odu assured that the government will continue to support initiatives promoting mentorship and professional growth for women.
She praised MWAN for its advocacy efforts and community outreach programmes, noting that its work not only saves lives but shapes the future of healthcare in the state.
According to her, empowering one woman has a profoundly positive impact on families, communities, and the nation as a whole, with the ultimate goal of creating a society where every woman can realise her full potential.
