The Nigeria Customs Service, Area II Command, Onne Port, Rivers State, has intercepted 20 containers loaded with illicit drugs valued at over N10 billion. The seizure was disclosed on Wednesday during a press briefing by the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Mohammed Babandede, at the Command’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.
In addition to the seizure, the Command reported a revenue generation of N190.57 billion in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 17.12 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Comptroller Babandede stressed the Customs Service’s critical role in safeguarding national security and supporting economic growth through the enforcement of trade regulations and revenue collection. He condemned the importation of prohibited substances, warning that such criminal activities pose grave threats to public health and national security, and are punishable by law.
