There are two conflicting orders on the arrest of the Chief of Staff to Rivers State Goverment House, Edison Ehie over the alleged destruction of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
This is as a Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday issued a warrant for the arrest of Edison Ehie over his alleged involvement in the burning of the state House of Assembly.
The court also listed Jinjiri Bala, Happy Benedict, Progress Joseph, Adokiye Oyagiri, and Chibuike Peter also known as Rambo for arrest. This is for allegedly participating in some criminal activities and the explosion that rocked the complex of the state assembly amid alleged moves by some lawmakers to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara on October 30, 2023.
In another development a Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt yesterday restrained the police from arresting Edison Ehie
Ehie had asked the court to restrain the police and other security agencies from arresting, detaining, or harassing him over his alleged involvement in the explosion at the Rivers State House of Assembly
The Presiding Judge, Justice Sika Aprioku, after granting the order, adjourned to February 6th, 2024, for hearing of the substantive application.
As you may know, the Martin Amaewhule-led lawmakers had written a criminal petition against Ehie to the Rivers State Police Command over the invasion and arson attack on the chambers of the State Assembly by unknown hoodlums.
In the petition, the Amaewhule faction of the House of Assembly had asked the police to arrest and prosecute Ehie for his alleged involvement in the fire incident at the Assembly Complex on October 29, 2023.
