Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has expressed doubts over the suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s ability to broker peace amid the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Wike recounted a recent meeting with Fubara, which was also attended by two All Progressives Congress (APC) governors. He said he told Fubara directly that he lacked the capacity to foster genuine peace.
“I told him I don’t think you really have the capacity to make this peace,” Wike said.
The minister criticized Fubara for seeking reconciliation while his allies continue to publicly attack political opponents. He stressed that beyond engaging with him, Fubara must also reach out to key stakeholders, including the State House of Assembly and the ruling party, to achieve lasting peace.
