The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, has announced that the Local Government Election Tribunal now has 30 days to conclude all election petitions, following recent amendments to the law.
Justice Amadi disclosed this on Tuesday while swearing in members of the tribunal in Port Harcourt. He urged the members to carry out their duties impartially and without fear or favour.
Reacting to criticisms over the tribunal’s inauguration, the Chief Judge stressed that he acted strictly within the law, noting that the statutes empower him to constitute and administer the oath to the tribunal.
