The Rivers State Civil Society Organisations (RIVCSO) has announced plans to challenge the outcome of last Saturday’s local government elections in court.
In a statement, the group’s chairman, Enefa Georgewill, dismissed the exercise as a “clear rejection by the people,” arguing that the absence of opposition and the non-use of essential materials, including the BIVAS, rendered the process illegitimate.
Georgewill, however, praised residents of the state for maintaining peace and refusing to resort to violence despite their decision not to participate in the polls.
He further urged the judiciary to ensure transparency in handling the case, stressing that restoring public confidence in the democratic process was crucial for the future of governance in Rivers State.
