The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Simeon Amadi has warned magistrates to stop remanding suspects in cases they do not have jurisdiction over.
Amadi, said this after he released over 27 inmates while on a jail delivery at the Port Harcourt Correctional Center on Tuesday.
The Chief Judge was expected to release more than 200 inmates but had to stop due to missing files and no legal advice from the Directorate of public prosecution.
He called for collaboration between the office of the Correctional Centre, the Police and the DPP to prevent such issues.
The 24 males and 3 females that were released commended the Chief judge for the kind gesture and promised to stay off crime.
Sources say the released inmates have not been taken to court after their first arraignment by the Police.
