Ten inmates awaiting trial at the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre, have been pardoned by the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Simeon Amadi.
The inmates, who have spent over fives years in prison, were granted pardon on Thursday, while the Chief judge was conducting jail delivery exercises.
However, the exercise was halted Midway, due to missing files and discrepancies in offences of inmates.
Justice Simeon, who immediately called for a stakeholders meeting to address the issues, advised the released inmates to be of good conduct.
He explained that the exercise was inline with the provision of Section 11 of Criminal Justice Law of the Federation of Nigerian Act, 2004, which was in a bid to decongest the Correctional facility.
He also advised magistrates to visit the centre and release inmates with minor offences.
