A boat mishap along the Andoni/Bonny waterways has reportedly claimed the lives of over 20 persons. The incident occurred on Tuesday.
Chairman of the council, Erastus Awortu in a statement said the victims were mainly from Ngo, Ataba and other communities.
He commiserated with families of the victims and urged boat operators to always drive carefully.
Meanwhile, in an effort to prevent future occurrences, the leadership of the Obolo Youth Coalition Rivers State Chapter has appealed to the Andoni Local Government Authority and the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria Andoni Branch to as a matter of urgency provide and enforce the use of safety life vest to all loading points throughout Andoni Communities and Andoni territorial waterways.
