The Rivers State House of Assembly has urged the management of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to regularly interface with government and be acquainted with requisite policies of government and laws in the State.
Speaker of the House – Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule said this when the Director of SPDC, Mr. Igo Weli and his management team paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
Amaewhule stressed the need for corporate bodies operating in the State to inform government of their operations, which he said will ensure transparency and give government the latitude to address any challenges that may arise in the course of their operations;
He added that as the legislative arm of government, the House of Assembly has the constitutional powers to invite any corporate entity operating in Rivers State because no entity or individual is above the Constitution.
Speaking earlier, the Director of SPDC, Mr. Igo Weli expressed gratitude to the Speaker for the warm reception, reiterating SPDC’s commitment to the development of the State, and emphasizing their resolve to work with the government for the benefit of all stakeholders.
