The Rivers State House of Assembly has resolved to investigate the management of the state’s finances during the six-month tenure of Ibok-Ete Ibas, who served as sole administrator.
The decision was taken during plenary on Thursday, the Assembly’s first sitting since last week. Lawmakers also directed Governor Siminalayi Fubara to present a list of commissioner nominees for screening and confirmation.
Ibas, a retired naval chief, was appointed sole administrator on March 18 following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of emergency rule in the state, which suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Nma Odu, and the Assembly for six months amid a deepening political crisis linked to the rift between Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.
During his tenure, Ibas was unable to complete the reconstruction of the Assembly complex.
