Factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, alongside six female members of the House on Monday participated in the International Legislative Dialogue on Women and Constitution Amendment in Nigeria.
The event took place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
Martins Wachukwu – Special Assistant on Media to Amaewhule in a statement said, the event was organized by the House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review in collaboration with the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC), and supported by the European Union (EU).
He said, the dialogue focused on enhancing women’s involvement in governance, highlighting the need for more gender-sensitive reforms in Nigeria’s constitution.
According to him, female members of the Assembly who played active roles in the discussions, shared insights on the challenges women face in politics and proposed strategies to enhance their participation in governance.
He added that the dialogue is expected to lay the groundwork for meaningful amendments to Nigeria’s constitution that will pave the way for more women in leadership roles.
