The Hon Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly has condemned Governor Siminialayi Fubara’s recent appointments, calling them illegal and a violation of court rulings and state laws.
During its 122nd legislative sitting, the Assembly criticized Fubara’s appointment and swearing-in of individuals as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly Service Commission and the Local Government Service Commission without legislative approval. Lawmakers, led by Majority Leader Hon. Major Jack, described the appointees as “impostors” and accused the governor of disregarding due process.
Rt. Hon. Chike Amaewhule denounced the move as contemptuous of the Court of Appeal’s judgment, which upheld him as Speaker. He warned that the governor’s actions amounted to misconduct and would not go unnoticed.
The Assembly unanimously resolved to issue a disclaimer disavowing the appointments and directed the Clerk to publish it.
