Rivers State Government says it is prepared to host an eventful Remembrance Day to honour men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces who have dedicated their lives for the territorial integrity of the nation.

Speaking to journalist while on inspection of the Isaac Boro Park Cenotaph, venue of the Armed Forces wreath laying ceremony which is billed to hold on 15th January nationwide, the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, affirmed that it was expedient that Rivers State Government honour those who are fighting in different theatres of conflict across the country.

He expressed, “we are celebrating those who are fighting in different theatres of conflict and wars, remembering those who have died in previous wars and those who have been rendered invalid due to their sacrifices for the nation.

“Rivers people should expect our usual superlative performance because everything is set for 15th January to celebrate men and women of the Armed Forces. We invite the good people of Rivers State to be part of the celebration”, he said.

He verified that His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara will inspect the Guards of Honour and perform the wreath laying.

The SSG reconfirmed that the Jumaat Prayers will hold on Friday, 12th January at the Army Central Mosque, Bori camp while an Inter-denominational church Service will hold at St. Cyprian Anglican Church on Sunday, 14th January in Port Harcourt respectively.

He further informed that the annual Remembrance Day has been renamed, Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD).
