Factional spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Darlington Nwauju, has raised the alarm over an alleged plot to abduct and assassinate him, claiming the plan is politically motivated and targeted at silencing his views on the ongoing political crisis in the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Nwauju said he had received what he described as credible intelligence pointing to a coordinated plot by unnamed sponsors and hired agents to attack him. According to him, the alleged plot involves trailing his movements within Port Harcourt and Abuja.
He condemned the alleged plan, describing it as a dangerous attempt to revive politically motivated violence in Rivers State, and warned that such actions would only worsen the state’s political tensions.
Nwauju said the alleged move was linked to his “principled stance” on developments within the state’s political landscape, adding that those behind the plan would not succeed in silencing him or adding his name to unresolved cases of political killings in the state.
The APC spokesperson called on relevant security agencies to take the allegation seriously and ensure the protection of lives and property, stressing that Rivers State must not be allowed to descend into lawlessness.
He also expressed confidence that the plot would fail, declaring that the state would overcome what he termed forces seeking to destabilise it.
