The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Chief Emeka Beke, has dismissed claims by a rival faction led by Chief Tony Okocha that former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, is collaborating with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to undermine President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Darlington Nwauju, the Publicity Secretary of the APC under Beke’s leadership, issued a statement on Monday refuting the allegations. He described the claims by Chibuike Ikenga as “malicious” and dismissed them as baseless “tales by moonlight.”
Nwauju accused Chibuike Ikenga, a member of the opposing faction, of attempting to tarnish Amaechi’s reputation and sow discord between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and President Tinubu.
“We have observed that political jobbers like Chibuike Ikenga and his ilk have used blackmail as a tool to secure government appointments and patronage in the past,” Nwauju said. “They are now desperate to hijack the structure of our party in Rivers State for selfish gains. However, we are determined to counter their blackmail with the truth,” he said.
Nwauju further alleged that the claims were part of a broader agenda to curry favor with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, by fabricating stories linking Amaechi to plots against the party and the presidency. He urged the public to disregard the allegations.
